WSU Master Gardeners at the
NE WA Fair

Terry Swagerty, Small Farm Program Director from WSU Stevens County Extension, is working with WSU Stevens County Master Gardeners on a demonstration garden at the NE WA Fairgrounds. This ten by ten square foot garden will be used to demonstrate how a family can break into gardening and how much can be planted in a small area. Beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, and carrots are among the vegetables growing in the fair garden.

A cover crop of field peas and buckwheat is planted between the rows to help deter weeds, and add green manure and nitrogen which will enhance the soil for next year’s crop.

Master Gardeners will be at the NE WA Fair August 21-24 to talk to people about what is going on in the garden and answer any questions. Master Gardener hours will be posted by the garden during the fair and on this website before the fair.

For more information contact Terry Swagerty, WSU Stevens County Extension Small Farm Program Director at 684-2588.
