Spring
Gardening Workshops
Beginning
and Extended Season Gardening
May 13, 2008 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
This class
is designed for the beginning gardener. Topics include: designing
your garden with care, soil management, planting, transplanting,
overall maintenance and how to extend your season. Instructors
Pat Evans, Susan England, and Suzanne Schroeder, are WSU Stevens
County Master Gardeners. Learn tips on mulch, organic matter,
pest management, when to fertilize and how light and location
make a difference.
This workshop
will be held at the WSU Stevens County Extension office, 985 S.
Elm in Colville. There is a $5 fee. Call 684-2588 to register.

Composting
May 22, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Chewelah
Learn how
to compost in this workshop. Composting reduces waste and provides
an inexpensive treatment for gardens. Learn tips and tricks on
composting from Jon Lind, WSU Master Gardener.
This workshop
will be held at the Chewelah City Council Chambers, 301 E. Clay.

Composting publication. Whether you have been composting for
years or want to start a compost pile, this bulletin can help
you. It explains the basic interactions of "fast" and
"slow" composting, defines terms, and breaks raw composting
matter into categories by moisture, porosity, and nitrogen content.
Troubleshooting tips answer your questions and provide health
and safety information. Learn how to build and turn a pile, what
NOT to add, and how to use your finished compost.
