Master Gardeners
December 11: Today is the deadline for the 2010 WSU Master Gardener Applications - available online. If you are interested in taking the class and volunteering for WSU get your application in today. A minimum of 10 participants is needed.

The holidays are quickly approaching – learn about Poinsettia Care including the history of poinsettias, plant selection, care, toxicity and how to force re-flowering for next year. Print and include a copy with your poinsettia gifts this year!

Agriculture
December 5: The Northeast Washington Hay Growers Association Annual Meeting will be held from 8:30 to 3 pm at John’s Automotive in Clayton. In addition to helpful hay topics, two pesticide recertification credits are available. 

December 7: Winter Pesticide Recertification Courses will be held from 2-5 pm and 6-9 pm at the Extension office in Colville. Three credits are available. Topics include Weed Identification and Characteristics; Cost Share Programs that offer opportunities for integrated pest management on crop, pasture and range lands, as well as forest roadsides.

December 14: Winter Pesticide Recertification Courses will be held from 2-5 pm and 6-9 pm at the Extension office in Colville. Three credits are available. Topics include Pest Management Planning, Pests in the Forest, and Sprayer Preparation/Calibration and Pestilential Pests - Stem rust, wheat head armyworm, and cereal leaf beetle.

Community Development
December 8, 15 and 17: Grant Writing Basics will be held from 8 am to 10 am at the Kettle Falls Library. This 3-week course will introduce you many tools to help you organize, write, and locate grant opportunities. Registration fee is $15 for the series. Class is limited to 9 people: first come, first served.

Forestry
January 22, 2010: 18th Annual Family Foresters Workshop in Spokane Valley, Washington. This is a forum for foresters and other natural resource professionals who work with family forest owners, co-sponsored by WSU Extension. 4-H Events
November 24: Teens interested in attending the Know Your Government Conference in February should plan to come to the first orientation meeting today at 6:30 pm at the Extension office.

December 1: 4-H Club enrollments are due to the Extension office today.

December 9: 4-H Leaders' Council meets today at 5:30 pm at the Extension office. It will be a holiday potluck so bring an item and join us.

Sensational Saturday: It's time to start planning for Sensational Saturday and we want to know what workshops you want. So click here and take a short survey to let us know.

4-H Opportunities: Teens interested in traveling may want to check out the 4-H Interstate Exchange Club for the chance to host a visiting 4-H'er and then travel to their home state for a weeklong visit. And we have a new club, Clover Sprouts, just for K-2 graders with fun activities and projects geared to that age.
